I didnt know where to post this as its a question and a wanted ad.

I am trying to get an idea whether its realistically possible (legally mostly) to purchase a Minsk in Hanoi, and then ride it to HCMC and then across to Cambodia and Thailand. I have been searching the wonderful internet for hours and have seen almost every response give to this same question so I am fairly confused.

The desire to buy is mostly out of the fact we are over for a month and don't want to spend days of that time picking up and returning rentals in each country or area. Buying one bike for the whole trip is a really attractive option, however if its not going to be possible to cross borders from Vietnam to Cambodia and then Cambodia to Thailand then I will have to rethink the strategy.

I have seen responses indicating that Non residents in Vietman cant legally own a bike and that this will seriously effect our ability to cross borders with them, however I have seen others who claim they were riding across borders regularly.

If anyone has any recent, real life knowledge of what the issue are with owning (or at least purchasing) a bike in Vietnam, and then riding it across to Thailand then I would love to hear from you.
