hi,

I dont know if this is the right forum for this, but I wanted to get feedback on the health maintenence products that aren`t readily available here in Phnom Penh. I have had trouble in the past locating whey protein isolate, so thats already on the list. Also, on the list is creatine monohydrate, fish oil, multi vitamins for men and womens. I would love to get some feedback from the expat community just to have abasic idea. If there is demand then most likely I will end up sourcing certain items and begin a General Nutrition store somewhere in the capital. Well, I know it`s a longshot, but the info would be greatly appreciated. Peace to all! Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Well, depending on the demand it could very well be early 2013. I just need a little feedback and some demand to get started. The whey I want is top of the line Gold standard optimum nutrition whey protein isolate. Probably 3 main flavors to start. And the rest of the stuff like fish oil and creatine monohydrate would be from certified ISO labratories. I know some of the stuff is available here but I just dont trust the quality of some of it.

Thanks for the feedback.

Fish oil and multivitamins you can find at U Care. I think I've seen whey protein there as well. Maybe try The Place gym? They do sell some stuff there. Best of luck!

Lucky (Sihanouk) has 2lb tubs of Body Fortress "Super Advanced Whey" (WPI/WPC blend w/ 3g of Creatine & BCAAs etc. per scoop) for $35. USA Donuts and Mike's Burger sell it for about the same price. At Lucky it's in the lower middle of the coffee/drink mixes isle. Pricey compared to the US ($12/tub) but that is to be expected.

I look forward to the arrival of the Protein Palace!!

Whey protein concentrate WPC80 is a traded commodity and costs around $6000 a metric ton.Thats $6 per kg . Its then flavored, blended, packed, warehoused and distributed. There are wages and profits also added before it gets to the reseller then they need to profit.

Importing into Cambodia legally with documentation through customs is insanely expensive and will add 50%to the price.

That's why a quality product will cost plenty in Cambodia.I would not trust an unknown brand at a cheap price to be reliable. Quality control does not exist in some counties. Labeling laws also differ. Plus minus 10% in some places plus minus 20% in other places. This means the label may claim 40grams of protein when in fact only 32 grams are present.

Another option to consider is buying raw pure WPC80 and mix your own.

Does anyone know if Protein Palace ever opened or where I can get Creatine in Phnom Penh?

looks like protein palace was a pipe-dream for someone as there is now a restaurant where they said it was going to open. I saw Creatine (six star brand) http://www.sixstarpro.com/products/creatinex3_pill/
for sale at USA Donuts yesterday. I didn't ask for prices but I imagine it was pretty expensive. FWIW they go for $10 a bottle in the states but are not really a great option in the pill format as they are more expensive than the powder. You could call Maria and Fredrik at the Intercon gym as they sell all that stuff as well...

If you're ever in Vietnam, check the expat groceries on Ham Nghi street in HCMC, district 1. They sell whey, creatine, fish oil and multi-vits as well as glucosamine/chondroitin. The protein was Ultimate Nutrition and a big tub was $100. I believe it was 5lb. No idea on the other prices.

The guy at Muscle Fitness Centre at streets 386/95 sells the same tubs of whey, but I think he said $115.

I'm an international distributor for a US-owned global nutritional business, specializing in immune-modulating supplementation. Can anyone tell me, given the agreement made by Cambodia to embark on the ASEAN agreement by end of 2015, what are the implications on having a recognized distribution of product? Can a new company in Cambodia have an automatic approval to sell if the products are safe, legitimate, patented and made in USA? We have already established an import company in Cambodia and just wondering what the next step is....
