Are there actually any tv-ads about domestic waste casuing problems to the environment or human health? Environment ok, maybe Cambodians care less about it then we do or also just don't realise yet but if you tell them domestic waste will cause health problems on long term even to their next generation, their own kids and their kids-kids, maybe they start being a bit more cautious.

There is a billboard on the green fence on the riverside exhorting people to put their rubbish in the bin,thats all Ive seen.
I went to kirirom once,after hearing what a beautiful spot it was,it would have been beautiful before the khmers arrived with their rubbish.
But I did see one group of young khmers carrying their rubbish back to their vehicle,so some care.

well that seems to be working... NOT. Its a shame.
The river front is littered every day with people just tossing plastic bags and other rubbish away.
An rubbish awareness education program such as the one in AUS would be great here.
There must be something along these lines on Khmer TV.
I have seen a group once going thru the park at Wat Botum all dressed in the same tshirts picking up rubbish.

The group picking up trash would probably have been the Sam Rainsy Juniors (or whatever their youth movement is called). The CPP tried to put a stop to them doing organised clean-up days due to the "threat to public order" but I think that they just ignored the police and MPs and kept on walking when the main confrontation came. I remember reading about it in the PPP a while back.

What they need is a jingle, that'll get things going. "Do the right thiiiiiing, do the right thiiiiing, do the right thiiiiiing!" haven't heard that since about 20 years ago in Australia, but it must have really sunk in. Jingles work, people!

I was at occateul beach a few weeks ago and nearly fell off my lounger when I saw clean up people with long BBQ tongs picking up rubbish on the beach.
The khmers are good at picking up UXOs and operating on them to recycle the metal and or explosives.The ones that arent good at picking them up are dead.

Jingles might indeed work. Especially on cell-phones, if you create a catchy one.
A couple of months ago I heard a little chat on the radio about the condom problem they have in India. Talking about condoms in India is still a great taboo so a group created a very catchy ring tone for mobiles. Many Indian people really liked this tune and the only thing it actually was was a canon version of a couple of people singing con, con, con, condooooooom with a nice tune in the background. Words about trash mixed in a ring tone might be nice

of particular concern is the amount of plastic and rubber the khmers burn in their rubbish ... aren't the fumes poisonous or something ... ? ...

Well, it's not just the fumes that aren't healthy at all but what about all the chemicals, while burning everything, that leach into the ground reaching groundwater etc. Nothing me anymore in this country.
