7PM: DOCUMENTARIES - Cambodia is thought to produce the best wild honey in South East Asia, mainly due to its climate and topography. Most of it is harvested informally and sold cheaply at local village markets. Screening of the Cambodian short WHAT’S THE BUZZ (2012, 6 min) is followed by MORE THAN HONEY (2013, 91 min), a fascinating film about the decimation of the world’s bee population through the phenomenon known as colony collapse disorder. Swiss top director Marcus Imhoof surveys the problem and discusses it with experts who offer a range of solutions in Switzerland, China, America and Australia. Remarkable in its close-up photography, the film is so stuffed with surreal tableaux it makes your head spin. The bees loom large, like creatures from some mutant planet; dangle together in a delicate chain; and fill the air, floating like unusually vivid dust specks.
