Review: Cafe and Restaurant L'Oriental

The bright yellow painted walls of the building outside hadn't been there when I passed that street the last time, so I thought it might be worth a stop. On a wooden board, was mentioned the different kinds of ice cream on offer, and a quick look through the window made me confident enough to enter.

Good design is still rare in Vientiane, so I was a bit overwhelmed when I saw this north-African styled room. One half is reserved for Japanese/African style seating basically on the floor, with Lao small tables and cushions. The orange walls make a warm atmosphere, wooden chairs and tables fit well with the rest of the furniture.

We actually only tried a coffee latte (which was good) and ice cream (we got vanilla rather than mango, but this was good as well). When we where browsing through the menu we discovered couscous, mint tea and some other Moroccan-style dishes. These, I will try next time.

The staff are friendly and speak English.

The overall experience was good, and I recommend it when you are nearby.

Located at Rue Khun Bo Lum (opposite M-Point Mart), not far from the of corner Samsenthai.
