Starting 10 August, the hotel will begin retailing a selection of the traditional treats. This Moon cake Sale follows closely all the good results we achieved from last year Mid-Autumn Festival.
"Our clientele is largely international, but we're located in the heart of the Vietnam's largest city," said John Gardner, General Manager of Caravelle Hotel. "Because the moon cake is such a cherished holiday treat in Vietnam, we want to extend the opportunity to showcase this aspect of Vietnamese culture to our guests."
Moon cakes are a traditional, East Asian pastry prepared every year to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. The individual cakes measure about 10cm in diameter and half again as thick. The cakes often contain one or more salted egg yolks as symbols of the full moon. The saltiness of the eggs is counter-balanced by the cake's sweet filling.
The Caravelle's moon cakes will be individually filled with a selection flavor: mixed nuts, pure lotus double yolk, green tea and white lotus single yolk. Sold by the boxful, the flakey, chewy pastries range in price from US$29Nett per deluxe box.
"The production of moon cakes is very labour intensive," said Gardner. "Few people make these at home. No matter where you go in East and North Asia, these cakes are considered a delicacy."
The cake boxes will be sold from the hotel's Lobby Lounge, as well as Nineteen Restaurant. We even have Moon cake voucher available at hotel's Lobby Shop, Ground Floor.
