Nguyen Tuan Khanh, 49, had often sold ecstasy pills at discotheques in the city, said the indictment read in court Friday.
Six other men received jail terms of 7-18 years for their roles in Khanh's "ecstasy ring", the court ruled. Khanh admitted that he often supplied ecstasy to Vu Quang Anh, Pham Doan Dang Vinh, and Tran Thanh Tuan.
He said these sub-dealers then distributed pills to Nguyen Hoang Hung and Luu Trung Dung since at least late-2006. Khanh said he had bought 3,700 ecstasy tablets and over 47 grams of ketamine from Du Kim Dung, who is currently under police investigation for his involvement with a trans-national drug cartel.
Khanh also said he had bought 20 grams of crystal methamphetamine, known as "ice," from Phan Duc Tai. The police arrested Khanh, Anh, Vinh, Tuan, Hung, Dung, and Tai between November 2006 and March 2007.
Investigators confiscated hundreds of ecstasy tablets from the group.
