“Phnom Penh: The loss of forest land as ancentral burying areas and of farming land of ethnic minority people in Cambodia was presented to a committee in Geneva in Switzerland, at the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, meeting last week.
“Three ethnic minority representatives and two non-government organization representatives attended the meeting. They returned to Cambodia on 23 February 2010.

The Mirror carried already last week a report about the extraordinary speech of the Prime Minister: “It Is Time to Stop; Military Officials Who Do Illegal Activities Are Not Fit to Work in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces” – where he directly named several generals present, criticizing their unacceptable, corrupt behavior. During the present week, there were still positive responses in the press, including from sources not so close to the government. Human Rights Watch, a US based organization, often very critical of the political climate in Cambodia, also supported the Prime Minister’s warning to commanders over their corrupt, illegal actions. And the Prime Minister himself continued to speak according to the same line, when he attacked nepotism, warning that nobody should nominate relatives and partisans for public office.
But we got also another response: “Words are cheap, nothing will change.”

Hun Sen: Cambodia Stopped the Partnership in Land Titling with the World Bank First

“The partnership in the Land Management and Administration Project [LMAP] between the World Bank and the Royal Government of Cambodia has been completely terminated by a declaration of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Akkak Moha Senapadei Dekchor Hun Sen, as stated on 7 September 2009. He claimed that it was done because the World Bank set many complicated conditions which would make it difficult to cooperate.
Koupreys Fall to Laos, 33-0
The victory, coupled with a 15-14 win over Cambodia last month in Vientiane, gave Laos the 2008 Mekong Cup, emblematic of rugby supremacy in the Mekong Region. It marks the first time Laos has won the trophy since it was inaugurated in 2005. Cambodia had won the Cup the three previous years of its existence.
Laos jumped out to a 20-0 haltime lead, and never looked back as it took advantage of numerous dropped balls by the Kouprey back line and sixteen Kouprey penalties.
Kouprey Squad Selected for Asian Five Nations Tournament
The roster includes 22 Cambodian players and one expatriate player who is eligible under the International Rugby Board (IRB) three year residency requirement.
The weeklong tournament is co-sponsored by the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), and will feature Southeast Asian neighbors Cambodia, Indonesia, and Laos playing in a "round robin" format.
Fauna & Flora International helps fight drug crime in Cambodian rainforest
Phnom Penh, June 2008 - Fauna & Flora International (FFI) has been instrumental in anti-drug enforcement efforts in Cambodia, leading to the confiscation of 33 tonnes of sassafras oil, a raw ingredient of the drug ecstasy. The confiscated oil was burned at a special public ceremony organised by the Cambodian government and Australian Federal Police (AFP).
Tim Morris, AFP Assistant Commissioner for Border and International, said that the oil "would have produced, by our calculations, 245 million ecstasy tablets". He added that the tablets could have fetched as much as US$7bn on the street.
Laos Edges Cambodia In Rugby Test Match
VIENTIANE, LAOS (May 31): Flyhalf Chris Mastaglio's penalty goal from 25 meters with less than five minutes left to play proved to be decisive as Laos edged the Cambodia Koupreys, 15-14 in an international rugby friendly Saturday afternoon at the National University of Laos.
The encounter between the two Southeast Asian neighbors marked the first ever international rugby match in the history of the Lao PDR. It also marked the first victory by Laos over Cambodia in rugby. The Koupreys had won the first two meetings, 26-16 last year and 30-0 in 2006.
Cambodia Koupreys set for match against Laos
PHNOM PENH (May 28): The "Koupreys," the Cambodian Men's National Rugby Team, have completed their final preparations for Saturday's test match against Laos in Vientiane.
Kickoff for Saturday's match is slated for 3 p.m. at the National University of Laos. The teams will play again on July 12 in Jakarta, Indonesia during the HSBC Asian Five Nations Regional Tournament.
Although the Koupreys have won the last two meetings between the two nations (26-16 last year and 30-0 in 2006), Cambodia head coach Brian Thomas feels the past is pretty much irrelevant.
