Cambodia Looks To Add To Their Medal Tally

As the 26th SEA Games enters its third day of activities, Cambodia Is looking to increase it's medal haul following two bronze medals won in Taekwondo and Pentanque in the first two days of the Games.

With progress made in Tennis and Pentaque yesterday, the kingdom is looking to add more medals as the pair of Bun Kenny and Orn Sambath will take on their opponents from Indonesia for the semi finals after defeating Laos 2 sets to 1 yesterday. The pair is assured of a bronze already but will be looking to chase the Gold or Silver.

As the 26th SEA games entered its second day of events, Cambodia's athletes made a bright start to their campaign both at the Palembang and Jakarta Centers. Apart from the little blemish from the Football team that saw their campaign finally come to a halt with a 4-1 spanking in the hands of reigning champions Malaysia and A 3-0 whitewash of the Volleyball team by Host Indonesia, the Second day of events looked promising with Athletes in Table tennis, Tennis and Pentaque coming up with some spectacular results and making progress towards the medal zones.

Cambodia are out of contention for this year’s SEA Games honours following three straight defeats against ASEAN heavyweights which unfortunately, they had drawn in Group A of the biennial championship this year.

And Friday Night rounded off what had been a generally disappointing outing for Lee Tae Hoon and his men even though the Cambodians still have the game against Malaysia to play for today.

Cambodia will today look to better her performance in the ongoing 26th SEA games as more athletes take to the field. In the first day of activities yesterday, Cambodia returned with only one bronze won by Seavmey Sorn in the women Under 62kg Taekwondo. Other athletes in Swimming, Athletics and Badminton fell by the way side.

Cambodia won her first medal in the on going 26th SEA games in Taekwondo after 17 year old Seavmey Sorn lost out in the semi finals against Vietnam's Thanh Thao Nguyen at the Korean-Indonesia Friendship Taekwondo center, Jakarta today.

Sorn Davin got to the semi finals after winning Malaysia's Maznal Samadin the Quarter Finals of he Under 62 Female Category.

Cambodia’s Hem Thon Ponleou’s attempt to make it to the next round of the 200m Breaststroke Swimming received a boost at the JAKABARING AQUATIC CENTRE in Palembang earlier on Saturday as the 21 year old swimmer finished 7th with a time of 02:38:53 minutes . Ponleou was drawn in group 1 in the heat along with others from Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam where he finished 3rd behind Malaysia and Indonesia. His time was good enough to put him in the final 8 to vie for a place on the podium.

Following the Grand Opening Ceremony of the 26th Sea games which officially kicked of yesterday both in Palembang and Jarkata, Cambodia is now set to put behind the dismal show of the Cambodian football team, and launch an assault on other sports starting with Taekwondo today at the Korea Friendship Taekwondo Center in Jakarta.

Cambodia were handed a Comprehensive 4-0 drubbing by Thailand who bounced back from their mid-week defeat to Malaysia to give themselves a life line of progressing from the " Group of Death in a Group A match that was played in front of a sparse crowd at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium Friday evening.

Today is 11-11-11, It will be a historic moment for Indonesia as the Peninsula country is set to flag off the 'Southeast Asian nations' SEA Games in 2011.

It will be the fourth time for Indonesia to after 1979, 1987 and 1997. In the three previous editions of this administration, contingent Indonesia became overall champion.
