Premiered in 2006, Royal Dream of the Moon features of the story of King Jeongjo, one of the greatest kings of Joseon Dynasty, who strived for a renaissance of the Joseon dynasty. To revive the phases of the times more vividly, the 2008 Royal Dream of the Moon has upgraded their costumes and set design. Directed by Lee Yuntaek, a leading figure in Korean theatre, the musical has been much loved not only by musical fans but also by the general public.

By showcasing events related to the Joseon era, such as the process of building the Hwasung Castle, Royal Dream of the Moon attempts to reflect the features of the Joseon era as much as possible.
