Paper Wedding Dress

Gaia Gallery at Insa-dong is to feature "Wedding Details of Mulberry," showcasing eight wedding dresses made of from mulberry tree bark, known to be a major ingredient in the making of Hanji. The exhibition is part of the premiere event for the 10th anniversary of the Wonju Hanji Festival (Korean only) slated for this coming September.

Also to be displayed are luxurious drapes, knitting, embroidery, ruffle and other clothing details to further demonstrate the potential of Hanji textiles and to check out the market and people's response.

The10th Wonju Hanji Festival will take place at Chiak Arts Center in Wonju, Gangwon-do (Gangwon Province) from September 24 to 28. The Hanji Development Institute, which hosts the event, will meanwhile also participate in the Hanstyle Expo held at Seoul's COEX (Convention and Exhibition Center), displaying Hanji brand materials from July 31 to August 3.

Hanji is one of the "Han" brands in Korea that the government designated as a unique Korean cultural product to be developed and promoted abroad. The other "Han" brands are Hangeul (Korean alphabet), Hansik (Korean food), Hanok (Korean traditional architecture), Hanguk Eumak (Korean traditional music or "Gugak") and Hanbok (Korean traditional clothing).

Gallery Gaia is 1 minute away from Anguk Station (Orange subway line) exit no.6 and 5 minutes away from Jonggak Station (Dark blue Subway Line) exit no. 3. The building is just across from the Crown Bakery. For more information visit this site and click "zoom" for location map.
