Korean to be an official language at Beijing Olympics

Korean has been chosen to be one of the official languages in the coming Beijing Olympic Games.

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the 29th Olympiad revealed Monday (July 28) that its Main Press Center and International Broadcasting Center would also support Korean along with English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Russian and Japanese.

So far the press center has installed four Korean specialist interpreters to work in turns providing a round-the-clock service. It also decided to deploy additional interpreters for press conferences and interviews of North and South Korean teams.

South Korea will be the 176th team to make a grand entrance during the opening ceremony of the coming Olympics on August 8. The North Korean team will directly follow the South. A total 204 teams from overseas are to participate in these games.
