The "military brat" is considered an "identifiable demographic" in the United States; however, this culture is underrepresented in literature and other mass media. Fortunately, the author and "military brat," Samia Mounts, understands this culture and has deftly applied her astute observations to her debut children's novel, "Frunk the Skunk." In "Frunk the Skunk," the misfit Tarryn Frunk and her peers not only struggle with the ordeals of middle school but also contend with the life of the "military brat," including frequent moves, ephemeral friendships, and strong patriarchal authority. In addition, they live in a place that is so foreign --- Seoul, Korea --- yet so familiar --- the Americanized base.
