As part of the Arab Cultural Festival, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) has organized a Kuwaiti painting exhibition that will be held from July 8 to 11 in Gallery Areum of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center (KFCC).
Followed by 2007 East Asia Week and 2007 African Cultural Festival, the festival is a bilateral cultural exchange event aimed at promoting Korean people's understanding of Arab culture, and strengthening the friendly relationships between Korea and Arab nations.
The exhibition will feature paintings by Thuraya Al-Baqsami, an influential Kuwaiti female artist and writer, who was born in 1952 in Kuwait. She is regarded by many people as a heroine of Kuwaiti women's rights, and her artwork has become an international symbol of the Arabian women's dignity and strength. She was awarded the Bronze Medal of the 'Kuwaiti Formative Art Society' in 1969, and the 'Golden Palm Leaf' of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Biennale in 1989 and 1992. She also received the First Prize of the Kuwait National Museum-Exhibition in 1987 and 1992.
At this event, visitors will be able to enjoy 40 artworks featuring traditional Arabic motifs. Anyone interested can visit and enjoy the exhibition free of charge.
