Economic Crisis Forces THAI to Cut Services
Monday, 15 December 2008

The current state of the global economy has forced THAI to review its capacity commitments to some destinations to suit current demand.

Under normal circumstances, Bangkok’s gateway airports are usually swamped in December with 50,000 new arrivals daily. The airports process about 100,000 passengers daily including those in transit.

However, due to the recent airport closures and a fall in demand all the indicators show the current daily intake is down 45 to 50% to around 30,000 arriving passengers a day.

It is for these reasons that the following flights will be cancelled during the current Northern Winter Traffic Programme effective until 28 March, 2009:

* TG703/704 BKK – JNB v.v.: effective from 18 January, 2009

* TG309/310 BKK – CGP v.v.: effective immediately

* TG997/998 BKK – PER v.v. Monday/Wednesday only: effective 15 December, 2008. Tuesday and Sunday flights remain unchanged. Please note that supplementary services during this period are being considered subject to demand.

In addition, THAI has been forced to reevaluate its frequency and/or aircraft types on some routes, which have also been adjusted to match demand requirements. Schedule change information is currently being generated for affected flights.

Passengers holding THAI 217 ticket stock wishing to cancel travel as a result of the suspension of JNB and CGP services may do so without any applicable cancellation/refund penalties.

Passengers affected by the reduction of PER services will be re-accommodated on the nearest operating THAI flight or if they choose to cancel their tickets, any applicable cancellation/refund penalties will also be waived.

Cancelled tickets are to be auto-refunded by the original issuing agent by 31 December 2008 with reference to Airline Authority SYDAA100725AO.

?For Galileo and Amadeus agents, this authority reference is to be entered in the “Airline Authority” box of the auto-refund. For Sabre agents, please use the “Free-Text” remarks box.
For more Information relating to these changes to scheduled services, please contact your local THAI office for assistance.
