The stall holders around the new stadium are to be evicted any day, apparently because the cambodian olympic people are about to build a new building-very sporting of them.
This is the same body who sent 28 officials to the last games to look after 8 athletes.
Both stadiums have had their share of land grabbers over the years,of course with the requisite scandals.
Why the olympic people need their own building for offices when there are thousands of square metres of vacant office space around town available at bargain basement prices is a typical cambodian mystery.
Is the international olympic commmittee funding this building?
Could some hotshot local journo ask the hard questions?
Instead of foreign media chasing foreign paedos or NGOs chasing foreign paedos could we have some investigative work done on this?
Is is almost certainly another rort and land grab.
Who were the stall holders paying rent to all these years?
When i lived on st 380 opposite the BKK market I learned about squatters and rents-quite amazing really.
The people with shops on the sidewalk are paying up to $150 a month for a few square metres without water or sewarage.
They pay someone in the big house across the road.
There are over twenty shops in that strip, not a bad income for mr big....

Mate, appreciate the story and what you are saying. But nobody really gives a rats ass. It doesnt affect their nights at Riverhouse or Darlin Darlin or their Range Rover/ Escalade or that over priced coffee at Gloria Jeans or that villa or $2K a month furnished apartment. Why should we care? They just need another cleansing, this time it should be all of the ones who got the suitcases full of USD under the bed. (In case the balloon goes up here again.)

Had a look at the demolition yesterday. As fast as the shops were coming down the blue steel fence was going up.
All the phone shops on the north side and the moto shops on the east side down 163 are going.
It is a huge site.
Ironically further south down 163 is an existing very old green fence with another swathe of empty land behind it.
I imagine that they will build the usual shophouses for sale and some token space for the olympic committee.
