Does anyone know whether we may get our driving license for 5 years instead of 1, same as khmers do, if we provide a residence certificate (likhat) in PP?
A lawyer told me so but I didn't manage to find out how and where that might be possible.

I got 5 years on renewal last time. Did not have to provide anything other than my expiring license and some photos. This is done through my employer but they are using a travel agency to do it.

I challenged my staff member handling my renewal to show me where in the law it says that foreigners only get one year licenses.....and she did.

Sorry, it's the law !

Article 45 subsection 2 of the Cambodian Traffice law states:

"The valid duration of driving license of foreigners exchanged to Cambodian one shall be in one year. The valid duration of driving license of the foreigners who passed the driving test would be in the same period as the Cambodian ones. And in the case that the foreigners’ driving license is invalid, the foreign drivers shall take the theoretical test and practical driving test.
Foreign drivers holding driving license type C, D, and E shall not be able to exchange for those type, but shall be able to exchange for type A or B."

Download the Cambodian Traffic Law and have a quick read, it is quite entertaining when you think how many of the rules are being enforced here.

Wow, thanks for the clarifications. Based on what's been said here, I believe someone "passed" my Cambodian driving test on my behalf, after my existing 1-year license had been stolen last year. I do have a 5-year license but I have never taken a driving test in the Kingdom. If I remember correctly, the "fee" was $100.
