Was out yesterday evening and encountered dreadful traffic, something was up.
Sure enough the japanese flood prevention team had parked heavy machinery in two spots on the riverside. They were going to dig holes and needed one lane for the job.
But had they erected signs anywhere warning of lane closures ahead-of course not.
Were they working through the night to limit the time that the road was obstructed-of course not.
With labour at a few dollars a day you would wonder why not.
They were working through the night on norodom for the last few weeks.
Will the drains ever work-probably not.
If there is no maintenance program to keep the drains free of rubbish, particularly plastic bags then the whole thing will have been a farce.
I remember in bangkok many years ago they would send prisoners down the drains to clean them out in the dry season before the wet.
The traffic on the riverside last night was halted for up to 30 minutes at times and the police were doing their best to herd recalcitrant khmer drivers into line with no avail.

I have to apologise to the contractors, tonight they were working.
They were driving in sheet piling hydraulically.
The traffic was under control and only flowing one way except for the occasional niek mien prick trying to get to metro in a lexie who insisted on going the wrong way.
These people are just so important that they cant behave like the rest of us.

I can't see it improving.
The amount of cars and bikes will only increase and there is no major infrastructure planned, such as a sky train alah Bangkok or such. (it was mentioned some time ago, but it wont happen)

The city was designed by the French without consideration for a few million people with cars and bikes. It's gonna be a nightmare in 3 or 4 years, if not already.
