As part of the WWF Greater Mekong Programme (GMP), WWF Cambodia manages a wide array of conservation projects in the forest, freshwater and species priority areas. Currently, WWF is negotiating with European donors for significant funding for several conservation projects in Mondulkiri Provinces in NE Cambodia. This funding is still to be confirmed but is expected within the next two months. WWF is therefore seeking expressions of interest from interested persons that may lead to employment late in 2008.
WWF is seeking expressions of interest from experienced international or national candidates for two (2) positions of Technical Advisors – Eastern Plains Protected Areas
WWF, together with the Forestry Administration, and Ministry of Environment, is implementing a comprehensive programme of conservation activities in a cohesive landscape approach in the Easter Plains Dry Forests landscape. A large part of this works aims to restore the once abundant populations of large mammal species in the Landscape through community based natural resources management and by developing alternative options for sustainable sources of income for local communities and for protected area management.
The positions will act as Technical Advisor for WWF’s conservation work in Mondulkiri Province. The positions involve direct involvement in project field work and management including; the planning, management, financial, and administrative aspects of the project. The position will also liaise and provide technical advice to relevant Mondulkiri provincial departments, authorities, and Mondulkiri based NGOs.
Major Responsibilities:
Develop, manage, and implement work plans and budget plans related to the project;
Oversee hiring of additional staff and rangers for the project;
Design and deliver basic training programs in data collection (use of GPS, maps, and binoculars, and recording data) guiding and tracking, radio communication, and PA management; Facilitate additional training via other institutions including law enforcement, fauna/fauna identification, and data analysis and reporting;
Develop, manage, and maintain logistical and infrastructure development;
Develop mechanisms for networking and partnerships with relevant government agencies, provincial and communal authorities, and local communities
Initiate the development of key policies and legislation regarding the effective management of the protected area/protected forest
Provide technical support and capacity building in biological survey and research, community extension, law enforcement, protected area management, and monitoring;
Design and manage ranger patrol system to address wildlife poaching and trade
Supervise the design, analysis, reporting, and management of field data;
Support the design and management of the landscape biodiversity monitoring system and research component;
Qualifications:

A university degree at Masters level or equivalent in conservation, natural resource management, wildlife management, or similar;
At least 7 years practical experience in protected area management and managing conservation programmes or projects, in a context that is preferably similar to comparable Southern African work;
Experience of working and negotiating with Government officials at all levels;
Significant supervisory experience, with excellent interpersonal, communication and diplomatic skills with the ability to manage and interact at all levels of an international, multicultural and multilingual organization;
Successful proposal development and some fund-raising experience also desirable.
