Orphans in Families Project (OFP)

Social Worker

The Disadvantaged Cambodians Organisation (DCO) is beginning a project to support orphans who are living with foster families in Pronhil Commune, Kravanh District, Pursat province.

We believe that foster families provide a healthier environment for orphan children – if the families can offer them sufficient resources. We are raising funds from private donors (mostly in the West) who wish to sponsor orphans and develop relationships with them.

We need a social worker to:

∑ assess the needs of the 45 orphans living in Pronhil Commune
∑ assist us in selecting beneficiaries
∑ liaise between sponsors & beneficiaries
∑ identify health & education needs & other problems
∑ suggest solutions
∑ translate letters between sponsors & orphans
∑ distribute monies or donations in kind to families with orphans

Salary is $150 per month.

English speaker essential. Must be able to ride a motorcycle. Women are highly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will work with the DCO Pursat team, but will report direct to the Orphans in Families Project Director in Phnom Penh.

This is a pilot project, and will expand to the other communes in Pronhil Commune if successful.

Candidates should apply in writing to Mr John Macgregor, Orphans in Families Project Director: johnmac11 [at] fastmail [dot] us. Enquiries: 012 624 310. Please enclose CV and covering letter.

Only shortlisted candidates will be requested to attend an interview.

Deadline: July 24, 2009
