Project on Gender-Based Violence during the Khmer Rouge Regime

Internship Opportunity

Cambodian Defenders Project (CDP) is a local non-governmental organization which provides free legal aid to the poor and vulnerable. In 2009, CDP initiated the Project on Gender-Based Violence during the Khmer Rouge Regime. This project aims at raising awareness on this topic among the public and supports survivors of such crimes, including rape and forced marriage, who participate as civil parties at the Extra-Ordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). Since 2011, CDP is cooperating with the ECCC and Transcultural Psycho-social Organization (TPO) to increase the engagement of women in the transitional justice process in Cambodia.

CDP is offering an internship with this project under the guidance of the International Advisor. The intern is expected to work a minimum of 3 days per week for a period of at least 3 months starting in October 2012.

The intern will be based at the CDP office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Please note that this is an unpaid position. CDP is unable to pay any remuneration or bear any expenses incurred by the intern during the stay in Phnom Penh.

Key Tasks:

The intern will be assisting the project team in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a set of activities related to advocacy and outreach. His/her tasks will include:

• establishing an advocacy plan
• developing monitoring tools for advocacy efforts and results
• organize and facilitate relevant workshops and meetings
• coordinate audio-visual documentation of project activities
• assist in report writing and fund-raising

Expected Profile:

• undergraduate or postgraduate degree in social science, political science, international development, communications or other related fields
• knowledge on gender issues and international framework on sexual violence in conflict
• native English speaker
• willing to learn and highly motivated
• good communication skills and ability to work in a team
• ability to work independently
• proficiency in Windows applications
