Expat Resident Volunteer Mentor needed at AusCam Freedom Project's Transition Life Center Community Home

AusCam Freedom Project is a Christian based organisation dedicated to enhancing the life opportunities of young Cambodian women who have experienced trauma in their lives through; violence, poverty, abandonment, homelessness, sexual exploitation or human trafficking.

Transitions Life Centre (TLC) Community Home is a transition home for up to 15 young women 16 – 23 years who are either, vulnerable to trafficking, sexual abuse or exploitation in their current living environment, or who have completed a therapy based shelter program or aging out of orphanage care and are now in ‘transition’ to re/integrate to community living.

TLC Program Goal - To serve vulnerable and at risk young Cambodian women through a safe, secure, home like environment where the young women can prepare to live independently while under program supervision and guidance. AusCam Freedom Project teaches tangible skills and real life application of those everyday skills aimed at achieving positive lasting change; with emphasis on social, educational, spiritual, health and environmental aspects of their lives.

Purpose of the Mentor Role:

· Act as a role model/mentor to all the young women residents

· Support the development of life/social skills (daily routines, budgeting, nutrition, shopping, cooking, cleaning, washing, appropriate interactions and behaviors, problem solving)

· Ensure a nurturing and warm environment for the young women through spending time, listening, caring, encouraging and praying with them as a big sister would

· Encourage young women in their studies, cooking and other trainings

· Provide consistency and boundaries within a safe and loving environment

· Facilitate house meetings with the young women weekly to discuss areas of challenge, areas for praise and schedule for the coming week

· Facilitate a weekly discussion group which aims to facilitate critical thinking and taking a more global interest in local and world news. Topics of interest could be generated monthly in house meeting. Perhaps using the newspapers to seek out articles which may be of interest.

· Adhere to AusCam Freedom Project’s Client Protection Policy

· Document any incident or problem with the young women

· Communicate with Social Worker/Program Manager in relation to any difficult or challenging behaviors

· Keep details of young women confidential who are participating in AusCam Freedom Project Programs

Required Skills/Experience

· Christian female age 20-30

· Experience living in/leadership role within a dorm is necessary

· Enjoy working with young disadvantaged women

· Team work and problem solving skills

· Understanding about the needs of and have love and compassion for young women who are vulnerable & at risk of exploitation, i.e. Human Trafficking for both Sex &Labor.

Home Location: Toul Tom Poung

This position is ‘Live-in’ – so hours are flexible depending on your own study commitments.

Benefits:As a Resident mentor you will receive free accommodation plus a monthly allowance of $100 per month.
