Bokor Mountain Road
Has anyone taken the newly made road up to Bokor mountain yet? Is it a smooth ride?
Not too bad actually. The first section - 5km or so - is really good. The rest has had much of the sting taken out of it with new bridges, widened roads and fresh gravel, with even the curves less sharp and dangerous. Even after heavy rains you can make it up in a couple of hours on a Honda Wave if you don't mind trashing it a bit. I think it might be closed outside of national holidays though.
Be wary of going up during national holidays, I went up during Khmer New Year this year, the traffic jams at the top kind of hampered the hollow charm of the place. Much better to go when its quieter, usually have the place to yourself.
Thanks for the info. When I was in Kep for the Waterfestival a local guy told me that they were opening the road just then. So have you been up there after the Waterfestival? Can I up there with my Honda 110cc without damaging it?
the road to bokor is definitely closed during normal times. it should be open again at chinese new year. end of jan/start of feb.
it turns out bokor opened for a day and a half at new year. a quarter of it has already been widened but not tar mac finished. the rest is still fairly rough. great fun on a dirt bike. look out for chinese new year when it seems it
will def open for at least a few days.
Anyone know if the road is open during Khmer New Year this year (2010)?
its open from today, for at least 5days. possibly over the weekend too. its nowhere near finished, but a good part of it is smooth. ok for any bike, but i wouldnt like to take a small one up there. very uncomfortable.
