7PM: DOCUMENTARY - Half a trillion dollars have been spent on the international aid machine in the last 50 years and it just keeps on pumping. It’s an industry that’s unquestionable and supported by the world’s biggest celebrities such as Angelina Jolie. But recently an increasing number of experts have begun to criticize the “giving game”. SWEET POISON (2013, 89 min) is a German documentary that looks at three development aid projects in Africa that went badly wrong. Working in cooperation with African scholars and journalists, director Peter Heller tackles the polarizing problems of development aid from an "African" perspective. The film is presented by the German Goethe-Institute.
