Cambodian villagers use video cameras to document what they have gone through during and after the Khmer Rouge era. Realizing the limitations of existing education and information material about Cambodia’s transitional justice process, co-directors Ella Pugliese and Nou Va provide with WE WANT (U) TO KNOW (2012, 54 min) an alternative to the centralization and ‘one-way’ flow of most media in the context of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. Khmer Rouge victims and their descendants got a chance to get deeply involved in the filming process, from conception to production. In October 2013 the film won the Community Cinema Award in Yamagata.
