6PM: EXHIBITION FINISSAGE “VANDALS AND VINYL” - The driving force behind “40 Thieves Apparel” is Jason Macmillan. The UK graffiti artist turned textile/graphic designer and confessed sneaker addict with a great love for photography & the arts has been exhibiting his latest selection of stencil art at Meta.

On the occasion of the end of his exhibition, we’ll screen the street art docu-mentary STYLE WARS (1983, 69 min) regarded as the indispensa-ble document of New York Street culture of the early '80s, the filmic record of a golden age of youthful creativity. When director Tony Silver and co-producer Henry Chalfant delivered the broadcast version of their prize-winning film STYLE WARS to PBS in 1983, the world received its first full immersion in the phenomenon that had taken over New York City. The urban landscape was physically transformed by graffiti artists who invented a new visual language to express both their individuality, and the voice of their community. In “Style Wars”, New York's ramshackle subway system is their public playground, bat-tleground, and spectacular artistic canvas. As MC's, DJ's and B-boys rock the city with new sounds and new moves, we see street corner breakdance bat-tles turn into performance art.

DJs Dr. Wah-Wah, Alan Richie aka “The Earl of Essex” & DJ Shagzy will mix the best street sounds, from house to break beats, on vinyl.
