Entries from Cambodia and Malaysia featured heavily in the line up vying for the top prize at Tropfest South East Asia 2015, part of the world’s largest short film festival. Tonight at Meta, we present the three 2015 winners from Cambodia. Ly Polen’s COLOURFUL KNOTS (2014, 7 min) was awarded 1st Prize. Somchanrith Chap fetched 3rd Prize with his “western” A FISTFUL OF PEBBLES (2014, 7 min), where a mysterious man finds himself in the muddy monsoon in a village terrorized by a local gangster. Chhin Sothea’s THE SCAVENGER (2014, 7 min) received the Audience Choice Award for depicting the lives of a desperately poor mother and her son, who collect rubbish on the dumpsite in Phnom Penh.

We’ll also screen two other 2015 Cambodian Tropfest submissions (THE RIDE by Sokyou Chea, BUBBLE by Hang Sokharo) as well as Cambodian winners from last year’s festival by Sothea Ines (RICE) and Ly Polen (DUETTO). Filmmakers will attend the screening and hold Q&As.
