La pratique du théâtre par les enfants doit être amenée d’une manière imagée et ludique. C’est une activité artistique, pédagogique qui est fondée sur la liberté d’expression de chacun (le respect) et qui contribue au développement personnel de chaque enfant.

Pour que les enfants prennent conscience que le corps est un moyen d’expression, j’ai ciblé les objectifs suivants :
- Prendre conscience de son propre volume corporel
- Aider l’enfant à le maîtriser en étant à l’écoute de ses capacités corporelles
- Etre à l’aise dans son corps en travaillant la confiance en soi et en ses partenaires
- Développer sa créativité en utilisant son imagination, sa concentration, ses émotions.

“airwaves” - khmer mekong films present the new tv drama

Set in a radio station from which the action spills into surrounding Phnom Penh, Cambodia's latest TV drama blends humour, action, love and pathos. The 52-episode series is currently playing twice-weekly to record audiences on CTN, Cambodia's most popular TV channel.

Its central theme is to encourage harmonious and peaceful relations between the majority and minority Cambodian communities of Khmers and Chams. In particular, it aims to discourage the radicalisation of young Muslims who may be so tempted by international recruiters. AirWaves’ creator Matthew Robinson presents relevant extracts, followed by a discussion about the programme themes.

David Richards has depicted some of the best and most iconic bars in Phnom Penh in this sexy and striking new exhibition. Snowies, Talking to a Stranger, Led Zeppelin, Heart of Darkness… and the Chinese House are just a few of the bars featured in this exhibition, which will also feature some more exotic paintings by Mr. Richards.

David Richards was influenced by his mother’s sketches and paintings since childhood, and started painting with her encouragements at the age of 5 years old. Frequent visits to the museums of Cincinnati and New Orleans’ inspired him to pursue a career of Fine Arts in college. His curiosity and maturing passion lead David to take as many courses as possible, ranging from drawing and graphic design to oil painting and sculpture, and ceramics and silversmithing.

Inspired by Gaugin, Rousseau, Gustav Klimt, Vermeer, Edward Hopper and Carravaggio amongst others, David Richards, started experimenting with water-color paint in California, but its only when he moved to Maui in 1986 that he immersed himself completely in his work. David painted everyday, often working on several projects at once, excited about the process of seeing his work being built over time.

His early painting from Maui in Hawaï, evolved around nature: oceans, jungle settings or sea life, but Richards then started a very popular series of paintings on mermaids. He has kept the sensuality and eroticism of these paintings in his new body of work “Phnom Penh Bars and Beyond”, which depicts the contemporary night scene in Phnom’ Penhs most notorious bars. His stay in South East Asia uncovered a fascination for decaying architecture, from French Colonial Buildings to old Chinese architecture, a feature which also strongly features in his work today.

Cambodia, in contrast to its SE Asian neighbors, has a fairly homogeneous population. Ninety percent of its 14 million people are ethnic Khmers. The remaining population consists of more than twenty distinct ethnic groups.

Most of which are small indigenous people groups, known collectively as "Highland Khmer", living in isolated mountain areas. Samre, Phnong, Stieng, Kuy, Krung, Tampuan, Rhade and Jarai form the majority in the sparsely populated provinces of Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, and Mondulkiri. Tonite we will present a variety of films from these provinces, including remarkable community-based video productions such as FOREST IS OUR LIFE.

Lakhaon is now celebrating four years of existence, but especially the realization of an essential project: the presentation--indeed, the re-creation--of the 21 forms of traditional Cambodian theater. This year, five forms will be presented to complete this ambitious project.

Reaching this goal was both a wager and a necessity. A wager, because certain forms had all but disappeared from the national repertory, a necessity, because it is important for artists, in order to turn toward contemporaneity, to draw from a visual history that has been mastered.

For Lakhaon is also looking ahead. And elsewhere. That's why the French company Parnas has become so generously involved, creating every year a new presentation after a two-month residence. This year, the director Catherine Marnas is proposing "her" reading of a comedy by Eugène Labiche, L’affaire de la rue de Lourcine.

Finally, six fables of La Fontaine will be translated into Khmer and presented in various places around Phnom Penh by the companies of the " Small Shadows Teater ."
