EXHIBITION OPENING – The arrival of the UN blue helmets (UNTAC) in 1991 brought significant changes to Cambodia, politically, economically and socially. Chan Vitharin, Chhhim Sothy, Ouk Socheaty, Suos Sodavy and Tith Veasna are five Cambodian artists from different generations. For the exhibition TRANSITION – curated by Tith Veasna - they approach the topic of UNTAC and the transitions it brought in different ways. The exhibition comprises abstract painting, photography and installation. In curating TRANSITION, Tith Veasna seeks to remind her fellow Cambodians about the limitations of simply complaining. Before UNTAC, there was great suffering and very little freedom in Cambodia. In every step of history, there are positive and negative aspects; there has always been suffering. If change comes too quickly, this creates suffering. To be impatient, to complain too much, or to think too little can all cause problems. Looking to history and focusing on positive transitions can be a foundation for peace.
