The meeting was apparently arranged in response to cell phone users' rising complaints over poor connection between 012 line operator MobiTel, 098 line operator Applifone and 016 line operator Telekom Malaysia International, Moneaksekar Khmer reported Saturday.

Presiding over the convention, PMTC Director General Meas Pov said that he has received letters from Applifone and Telekom Malaysia International who claimed that calls made by their clients to MobiTel have not been connected over the past months, wrote local medial NGO The Cambodia Daily Saturday.
"I tried calling between Applifone and CamGSM (012) and it took me ten minutes to reach," he told participants, adding: "I want to call 012 one time and have it go through."
A MobiTel representative told the meeting that he was not aware of the problem, pledgeding that he will report it to his chief executive officer, according to Moneaksekar Khmer.
No matter what calls are made from competitors or non-rival companies, all cell phone operators must connect them as regulated by the MPTC in 2003, wrote The Cambodia Daily.
"I think everyone understands clearly MPTC's regulations. I think some company is not following our regulation," the newspapers quoted Meas Pov as saying at the meeting.
An unidentified PMTC official told Moneaksekar Khmer that some companies were not afraid of the regulation as they bribed the ministry's high-ranking officials in return for permission to cause difficulties for clients who did not use their services.
"It's clear there is a problem. We are ready to make a technological investigation. We are just waiting for all parties to come together," Applifone's chief technical officer told the meeting, reported The Cambodia Daily.
A MobiTel spokesman said that the blame on poor connection should not be put on his company and suggested the problem be investigated at state-run regulator Telecom Cambodia through which cell phone operators connect.
However, Meas Pov said that: "We think the problem is not with Telecom Cambodia. We think this is a problem with the operator itself."

Poor cell service and poor (and expensive) internet service is inexcusable and greatly hobbles the development of Cambodia's economy.

i have also had problems, trying to send messages to 016 from from bothn 012 and non cambdoan ntwk phone.. this generally results in no message getting to 016, i assune because this goes to 012, they then collect the money but dont onfwd the message, a great deal for them but i have found another way to send that goes direct to 016 so their technique dont work anymore!
