I was here as a tourist some 4 years ago and needless to say it has changed dramatically. But then again I am not a tourist or back backer now.
But it has changed nevertheless. A lot of 4 wheel drives that are unable to go beyond 30 and are crying out for a run in the sun. They clog up the roads in the rush hour. And with the help of trafic police kind of back into the road. Seems in the center anyway there are not that many places to go.
There seems to be a lot of flash places around and an incredible super market. Maybe more than one.
Pretty sureal to be sitting in this trendy internet cafe in Byron Bay. On the face book chat with A, and all of a sudden I hear a huge storm is blowing trees down all over Phom Penh. Then I texted my son and got a reply from his mother and all was ok.
Coming here to live I have opted to rent a motor bike, which I have arranged on a monthly basis. Needless to say the need for driving licences and credit cards, which you normally need for such an agreement went out the window before I walked through the door of the motorbike shop.

I have a number of agencies on my hotmail account and have networked with people on this site, but it is hard to really get a feel of an apartment while still in Australia.
Basically looking for a 2 bed apartment open plan wooden floors. Ocean and mountain views would also be a selling point. As it is Phom Penh I will settle for river and city views. Or just near the river. A tree lined avenue would be nice with a few cafes near bye.
Ten acres in the sub tropical rain forest near the coast, infact near Byron Bay sounds idealic but I think I am over it. I was the last one there after daughter. wife, daughter left home. And now my son is in Cambodia. I will be there for his 8th birthday.
But even as a family on this place the work was hard. The first plant I put in the soil was eaten by the neighbour's cow. It was a sunflower I think.
I was browsing this site and I came across an apartment I really liked the sound of. I think it was at Murpheys. Or that might have been the name of the guy who owned it. It had a sports bar on the roof and all the things I am looking for. Like air con nice kitchen central to town. It was on on one of the forums and I am sure I can find it again. Then again I am sure it is taken.
Its cold for Australia and have not been too motivated to light my woodburner even If do have about a years load of post to get through or distroy. I mean indentify theft amongst other things.
Hopefully will be bable to buy my ticket soon, and I might do that fromSydney.
I am not selling my dishwasher washing machine or my double bed. I do not want a maid cleaner, or a body guard. Maybe I am on the wrong page.

All I know is I said goodbye to my brave 7 year old son who has agreed to live in Phom Pemh for 1 year. There is a get out clause mind you. He has to like it. I mean not hate it or get bullied or too stressed.
But how do children cope with such a move even if they are attendiing good intrernational schools? How long does it take to settlle in? Can they settle in.?
I live 25 mins up the coast from Byron Bay on ten acres of sub-tropical bush land. I have been here 13 years at the last count. Originally from England I came to Australia for a new life. The idea was a youth hostel in Byron Bay. But by the time we got here Byron already was top dollar and Backpacker hostels were worth millions.
So we settled for the bush life. Still 12 minutes from the coast and about 25 mins from Byron where I went yesterday.
I was surprised to discover people are reading this blog despite it being a day old only. I mean I have a blog spot blog, as well and did have a myspace blog that led to my down turn in life. I suppose what I am trying to say is there is no way of knowing who is reading the blogger .com but on this site I can see numbers.
