The Spot Opens on Hang Be

With framed Propaganda Art hanging on the walls out front and photographic images of Vietnam in the lounge bar area out back, The Spot is a welcome mid-range addition to Hanoi’s eating and drinking scene. It also marks a departure from the typical, grungier restobars so prevalent in the tourist friendly Old Quarter.

The focus here is on comfort — The Spot is certainly a laid-back, attractive spot to wile away some time — and on well-priced tasty but simple cuisine and drinks. The menu contains a mixture of large, main course-style salads (from VND100,000), while the sandwich menu includes anything from Tuscan chicken (VND100,000) to the Greek salmon sandwich (VND120,000), both served up with salad and fries. There are also a few mains on offer as well as a couple of attractive looking carpaccios.

The drinks menu is more standard with Tiger Draft (VND30,000), a range of cocktails (from VND60,000) and spirits starting at VND40,000 for Bacardi. However, thanks to friendly staff and the unobtrusive hip-hop influenced music selection that plays away in the background, the atmosphere here is veritably chilled, making this a great option for a decent meal and a few drinks.
