CAB approves direct flights to Cambodia, but actual flights may still take time to happen

Direct flights from the Philippines to Cambodia may soon be a reality after the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) gave local carriers the greenlight to add frequencies for the neighboring country.

The Philippine carriers that received the flight frequencies are AirAsia, Airphil Express, Cebu Pacific, and Zest Air, according to industry regulator CAB.

MANILA (23 Oct 2011) – Despite being drawn into what was termed as a ‘favourable’ draw’, Philippines national Under-23 team manager Dan Palami said that there is no room for complacency and that the squad must work harder to make their presence felt.

The draw for the much-anticipated men’s football event at the 26th edition of the SEA Games this year was made this week with Philippines being placed in the easier Group B against last edition’s runners-up Vietnam, Laos, Timor Leste, Myanmar and Brunei.

1 killed, 1 injured as Typhoon Nalgae batters N. Philippines

MANILA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- A 35-year-old passenger died and another was injured when the van they were riding on in northern Philippines was hit by a landslide as Typhoon Nalgae (local name: Quiel) pummeled the northern part of the country on Saturday, a senior government official said.

Executive director Benito Ramos of the National Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council said at around 10:30 a.m., the passenger van bound from Buguias to Bontoc was struck by a landslide while traversing Gonogon section of Halsema Highway in Mountain Province.

Manila smoking ban starts Monday

MANILA, Philippines - The 17 local government units in Metro Manila will be apprehending people smoking cigarettes in major and secondary roads starting Monday, May 30, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) today said.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said a team, composed of agency personnel and local health officers and policemen, will be strictly implementing the provisions of the Republic Act 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003, and anti-smoking prohibitions of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and all local ordinances.

3 foreigners' arrested, 42 sex workers rescued in raid

AUTHORITIES raided a nightclub in Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga Thursday night, leading to the arrest of three foreigners and two Filipinos and the rescue of 42 sex workers, including a 17-year-old girl from Capas, Tarlac.

Around 9 p.m. of Thursday, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Women and Children Protection Division (CIDG-WCPD) elements led by Police Superintendent Emma Libunao raided around the Sweet Girl Honey Pot night club situated at Fields Avenue, Baligabo, Angeles City and began rescue efforts for the women.

Fighting erupts between military, Muslim rebels in Southern Philippines

COTABATO, Philippines, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Muslim rebels in the southern Philippines attacked a military position on Thursday and engaged in gun battle as peace talk's resumption remained stalled.

At least 20 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) guerillas led by a commander, Pail Bajali, stormed the detachment of state militias around 10:00 a.m. in Sukaten village of Sumisip, Basilan province, said ground military commander Col. Nicanor Dolojan.

A firefight ensued, leaving casualties on the rebel's side.
