More than 49 different ethnic groups can be found living in Laos. Most of these groups continue to dress in traditional costumes passed down by their ancestors.

To showcase these colorful creations, Kopnoi, Made in Laos, is presenting a series of live Ethnic Fashion Shows in Luang Prabang, an enchanting historical city nestled between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. It is the former royal capital of Laos and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The show features the traditional clothing of more than 20 ethnicities. In total, there are 95 different costumes with intricate designs that include traditional jewelry, headwear, and ceremonial outfits, as well as age-old basketry and baby carriers used by the different ethnicities.

The show is held at Hive Bar from 7pm to 8pm, Tuesday through Saturday, in a beautiful outdoor garden setting where you can sample a Lao platter and discover local specialties, while viewing the show and learning more about the cultural weave and warp behind these costumes. The show also features a screen relaying information about the different ethnic groups. On hand at the Hive Bar, the staff are ready to answer any questions you might have. Collaborating on the show are the Traditional Arts Ethnology Center and the Phaeng Mai Gallery, whose modern, Lao-style designer clothing is featured in the grand finale of the showcase.

Afterwards, guests are welcome to stay and soak up the atmosphere of one of the premier nightspots in Luang Prabang, Hive bar. The bar has a full drinks list with great happy hour specials, a Lao and Western food menu, including pizza cooked in a wooden oven and homemade potato chips. Located at the bottom of Phousi Hill, Hive Bar has an amazing indoor and outdoor atmosphere with a DJ playing contemporary music, as well as a dance floor and an indoor lounge.

Ethnik Fashion runs from Thursday, October 29 until Friday January 29, 2010.
