Cambodia Flops in Basketball, Volleyball and Athletics

Just like the Cambodian Football Team to the 26th SEA Games, Cambodia's Volleyball and Basketball teams have failed to inspire at the Games.
The Football team lost all three group A Matches and have since returned to Cambodia, The Volleyball and basketball teams are set to follow suit this weekend after failing to win any games in the on going SEA games.
The Volleyball team lost to Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand three straight to nil to effectively knock out of the challenge for a podium finish. They face Malaysia on Thursday in an inconsequential tie to decide their final placement. Malaysia equally lost to all three opponents as Cambodia.
The trio of Pek Mith, Sopouen and Boroth Thach failed to inspire the Basketball team on Wednesday as they went down 57-78 to the Vietnamese team in the fight for 3/4th place in Group B. Coincidentally, when both teams met in Phnom Penh in a pre-sea game warm up in October, the tie ended 1-1 apiece. Cambodia received a blow when Boroth Thach limped out after 4 minutes in the first quarter following a recurrence of the thigh injury sustained during the last match against Thailand on Tuesday.
This was Cambodia’s Third defeat in the four-team group having been flattened in the opener against reigning champions the Philippines 127-68 on Monday and went down to Thailand 62-85 on Tuesday. Cambodia are effectively out of the competition and play Myanmar in an inconsequential pool tie Friday to determine the 7th/8th placed team.
In Palembang, the Athletics team also flopped as Marathon runner Takizaki Kuniaki finished in 5th place with a time of 2:37:39 behind Two Indonesians and Two Philippines. This came after Kieng Samorn lost in both the 1500 and 800m on Monday and Tuesday respectively. Also On Tuesday, Pin Wanheap could not make it to the finals of the 200m after making a time of 22.66 sec which was far behind the qualification time of 22:28 secs. Sar Chupveasna's 23:62 seconds in Heat 1 was also not good enough to progress to the finals effectively knocking out the Kingdom from Athletics.
In badminton, the pair of Prum Saravuth and Teav Yongvannack found their counterparts from Thailand too strong to contend with as they lost 2 straight sets in the Men's double. In the singles, Chindeth Puthcheath could not fair better as he fell to Singapore's Chen YongZhaoseth with the same scoreline.
The Pairing of Vann Chanpisey and Chindeth Puthcheath for the next round of the Men's double couldn't help matters as they also fell to their Thailand Counterpart 2-0.
In Boxing, it was also gloom for the Kingdom as , Medal hopeful, Phal Sophat, Phal Sophorn, and Hin Say Heng all lost out int he quarterfinal. The only consolation is Svay Ratha who defeated his opponent form Timor Leste to progress to the semi finals along with Choung Sok Leng and Hout Samath. These three are assured of at least a bronze, but will be hoping to challenge for a place in the finals on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Cambodia got a mixed result in Shurinjo Kempo as Kong Davorn lost to Vietnam Opponent while The Trio of Branom Channary, Sovan Rachana and Sovan Ratanak lost to Indonesian Opponents in the first round. However, The Kingdopm had something to cheer when Sovan Kiri defeated his malaysian Opponent to move to the next round.
Other events set for Thursday includes Judo, Shurinjo Kempo and Cambodia will be looking to increase their medal haul in this events.
Four Cambodians will take to the Center stage at the Ciracas Sports hall, Jakarta on thursday. Phat Saren will face Opponent from Brunei, Kong Savorn will battle it out with Timor leste, Sovan Kiri will look to consolidate his earlier victory when he takes on opponent from Vietnam and Un Sovannara fight it out with Malaysian opponent.
