On the 5th of April the Old Stadium in Phnom Penh will host the first Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF) under 14s football tournament. The event which starts at 12pm will see 8 of the best ISF sponsored teams competing in a 3 round knock out tournament.

The ISF is an organisation whose main function is providing education to street children. It currently has over 100 students studying at its two schools on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. However for the past three years one of its additional projects has been a football sponsorship programme. By working closely with the Cambodian Football Federation the project provides financial and logistical resources to other children's charities in order for them to set up their own football team.

The teams are trained and managed by FIFA qualified coaches. Over the last three years the project has grown and now involves approximately 1000 boys and girls whose lives have been turned around by the efforts of Cambodia's NGO's and charities.

For the first time, with help from the tournaments sponsors; Coca-Cola and PricewaterhouseCoopers, the best 8 of the 17 sponsored teams will compete in 11 aside 30 minute games, with the aim of progressing to the final and being crowned champions.

Between the tournaments 3 rounds 4 of the sponsored female teams will participate in two exhibition matches. These are in preparation for the female competition the ISF has scheduled for later this year. Anyone is welcome to come along and watch the kids enjoying the fantastic opportunity the project provides. The party atmosphere and quality football on show are sure to make it a fun day out.
