Rumors of the departure of one of the South Korean shareholders of Gold Tower 42 sparked a story in Khmer-language newspaper Chakraval Daily yesterday.

The newspaper alleged that the shareholder in question "carried money from the sales of apartment buildings and escaped to South Korea," writing that "the scandal really shocked and surprised customers."

However, the "sudden disappearance" of advertisement billboards cited in the publication does not indicate any problems with the project's investors, Teng Rithy, Gold Tower 42's senior manager, said by phone.

"This is only a rumor," he said, stressing that the relationship between the three companies involved in the project remains strong.

Construction has only been halted whilst workers await materials that should arrive in May, Teng Rithy said. "It is no problem, don't be worried," Teng Rithy assured.

Over 80 percent of the apartments in Gold Tower 42 have already been sold.
