One of the world’s most esteemed auction houses is poised to stage its first ever event in Cambodia.
Christie’s, founded in London in 1766, is synonymous with fine art and today boasts offices around the world, including in London, New York, Paris, Geneva, Milan, Amsterdam, Dubai, and Hong Kong.

In March, it will hold an auction at the Sofitel Hotel in Phnom Penh to mark the culmination of The Creators Exhibition 2012 and raise much-needed funds to support Cambodia’s next generation of artists. The exhibition, now in its third year, highlights the work of artists, craftsmen and designers based here in Cambodia.
This year’s event, due to be held at the No Problem colonial villa on Street 178 between March 3 and 11, will include fashion designs by Ambre; sculptural work in bamboo, rattan and metal by Sopheap Pich; and graffiti-inspired canvasses by Khmer-Kiwi pensmith Peap Tarr. In total, more than 20 artists and designers are expected to showcase their creations.

Christie’s has pledged to auction the pick of the exhibits, with proceeds going to Cambodia Living Art, an association that supports young Cambodian artists.
The exact date and time of the auction have yet to be confirmed. To find out more about The Creators Exhibition, visit www.recreation-cambodia.com.
