Cambodia Strikes Gold In Vovinam, Medal Haul Increases At SEA Games

Cambodians got something to cheer after Ly Boramy struck gold in the Single Man Vovinam Martial arts Yesterday. The 25 Year old gave a spectacular performance that stunned the Judges as well as the over 1000 spectators cheering Cambodia on as LY Boramy scored 278 points to defeat Vietnam and Indonesia to Silver and bronze respectively.

"I am so excited to have won this Gold" He stated. " I Dedicate this Gold to the Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, I thank my coach, all the sponsors, the NOCC as well as my teammates for the support given" Ly Boramy who also won Silver remarked moments after the Medal Award Ceremony.

Before the feat of Ly Boramy, Cambodia won Two silver medals and 1 bronze from the Men Attacking by leg performance with the quartet of Ly Boramy, Sen Socheat, Chrin Bunlong and Kat Sopheak. Pal Chhorraksmy gave a spectacular performance in the Single woman weapon display to win a silver medal before the Chhin Piseth, Soueng Visal, Prak Vanny and Chrin Bunlong settled for a bronze medal in the Men Multi Weapon display.

"I was a little nervous going in to the final round" says Phal Chhorraksmy,"I had lost out in two world championship events in the last minute so I tried to be careful not to make mistake and in the end it came off good for me, i am so happy" reveals 25 year old Chhorraksmy.

Cambodia also won Silver and Bronze in the men and women 55kg combat respectively.

Tin Pheap was unlucky to miss out in the gold after taking a 2 point lead over Vietnam's Vo Nguyen Linh and was within 60 secs from Gold before allowing the vietnamese to come back to win the tie 4-2. In the earlier round, Tin Pheap thrilled the spectators with his all action performance which saw him dispatched Indonesian's Kadek Damadi.

Mao Monita wept after losing to Indonesia's Dewik Astutik in the semi finals of the female combact by a single point. Mao Fought gallantly but could not convince the judges to press the botton in her favour living the 15 year old to settle for bronze.

Vovinam gave Cambodia a total of 7 medals yesterday and more are expected as the competitions unfolds.

Vovinam Team wins 6 medals in first day of Competition

Also yesterday, Cambodia won 2 bronze medals in Wrestling and Taekwondo. Chab Linh won Bronze in the 50kg Greco Roman Male category while Nuth Sophol won bronze int he 60kg Greco Roman male Category.

In Taekwondo, Chhouen Puthearim and Phon Virak could only settle for Bronze medals in their events.
