With nearly 600 exhibitors at this year’s Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (Filmart), there was a warm welcome for the new Cambodia Pavilion. Distributors and sales representatives fill the halls of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre each year at one of the three largest film markets in the world.

At the opening ceremony on March 21, Chief Executive, Mr. Donald Tsang, proudly announced on live television, “other firsts include a Cambodia Pavilion…” Delegates from Cambodia included the companies, Sabay, Rasmey Hang Meas, FX Entertainment and Kmy Films. The Association of Filmmakers of Cambodia (AFC) coordinated the participation.

Film director, Chhay Bora, donated several posters of his recent movie, “Lost Loves” to decorate the booth, although he was unable to attend. Other registered guests from Cambodia included CTN, MYTV and screenwriter, Michael Hodgson.

Filmart runs from 21-25 March, 2011. The AFC said they hope next year’s Cambodia Pavilion will include even more participants who want to buy or sell movie content internationally. The purpose of the organization is to bridge the existing gap between Cambodian filmmakers (both Khmer and foreigners) and the international market.
