Cambodia Basketball Star Killed in Auto Crash

Cambodia National Basketball Team Player, Phal Sorphor on Friday night was killed as his motobike ran into a moving truck on his way to the province.

According to reports, Phal Sophor who only recently returned from China where the National team took part in the 4th China-Asean invitational Basketball team was on his way to see his family in Preyveng Province before leaving for the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia but was unfortunate to meet with untimely death in an auto crash.

"One Basketball Player Died at about 6:30 today (Friday) in an accident" NOCC Secretary General Vath Chamroeun stated. "He is the best amoung the local players and was going to give his mother some money before leaving for SEA games"The sports official added.

As news of the untimely death of this promising 19 year old basketball player frickled, Members of the Basketball team and other NOCC Officials expressed shock over the death of Phal Sorphor.

"I am shocked when i heard the news, its really unbelievable" National Basketball Team Head Coach Austin Koledoye told Expat-Advisory

"I got a very terrible news one of my player Phal #5 died yesterday evening he was involved in a motorcycle accident. We set to depart on Thursday for the SEA games in Jarkata. We trained together on Thursday till 8pm. He was a very promising player, tallest and strongest on our team. This is terrible"Coach Austin wrote on his facebook wall later.

Team mate Bi Thach also expressed his condolence on his Face-book wall hearing the news of the death of Phal Sorphor. "It´s terrible. Phal Sophors past away yesterday. He had an accident on the way home to his parents because he wanted to give them money what he get for playing ball. It´s so sad. He was the biggest and strongest guy in our team. I will pray for him and his family" Boroth Thach wrote.

Also expressing deep felt sympathy was NOCC Games Cordinator Mr. Nhan Sokvisal, "On behalf of the Cambodian 26th SEA Games contingent,May I express my sadness feeling to the death of Mr.Samphors (National Basketball Player) who is passed away last night, May your soul live in peace" He stated

Leader of the delegation to the China Asean Invitational Basketball, Mr Top Panha was devastated when the news got to him "He went to China with me a few days ago and just met and talk with him on 2nd November during the Gala dinner for SEA games contingents, when I heard that he was dead I really down my knees last night. during basketball tournament in Pinggou, China... He is a good guy and very kind... I feel so pity... Hmmmmm I hope I can see him in this SEA Game again but now he went away from us.... I wish him will appearance in the heaven after next. Good bye Samphors Phal... We will always miss u deeply in our heart and warming."Condoles Top Panha.

Burial has been set for Saturday at his homeland in Prey Veng Province.
