The Lowdown:
Phnom Penh Hippie Orchestra formed about a year and a half ago, coming into contact with each other by meeting at gigs, mutual acquaintance and word of mouth, they were drawn together by a shared love of world music. They make a compelling melange of folk musical styles from around the globe. They are a loose agglomeration of like minded musicians, coming and going, providing their own musical flavours to the mix.

A great mash up of accordion, Yiddish, fiddle, Latin, mandolin, African, flute and diverse other instruments and styles, all tied up in a happy, hippie bow. Over the past year they have regularly graced the stages of Sharky’s, Equinox and Chinese House to foot stomping acclaim.

In the next year, they are hoping to add a greater mix of South East Asian and African songs to their repertoire and undertake a tour around Cambodia and surrounding countries.

You can hear a selection of their music by going to youtube and searching for Phnom Penh Hippie Orchestra.
