The Ministry of Public Administration and Security said Tuesday (July 1) that it is expanding the employment of non-Korean residents to higher-ranking public posts in wider functions, except positions in national defense or other confidential sectors dealing with highly classified information.
In the past, the Korean government has hired expatriates only as contract workers.
However, thanks to the ministry's latest decision and amendment in its public officer employment law earlier this year, non-Korean nationals resident in the country can be employed in wider and higher civil service positions, including executive posts and other special government positions.
Local government entities are also likely to open public officer positions to expatriates at the end of this year, the ministry said. The ministry will put employment advertisements of other government ministries on its English website for expatriates who are interested in working for the Korean government.
