Organized by Kyunghyang Newspaper and the Korea Forest Service, the 2nd Green Awards Ceremony was held at the Press Centre on November 30. Sponsors of the Korea Green Award comprised the Prime Minister's Commission on Lottery, the National Forestry Cooperative Federation and the Green Fund Management Foundation. The awards are presented to those who have contributed to the development and preservation of forestry resources and the environment in general.

This year, the Canadian embassy received the Special Award in recognition of the Government of Canada's efforts to preserve a 520-year-old tree situated in front of the new Canadian chancery in Jeong-dong, Seoul. In receiving the award, Ambassador Ted Lipman said that, "Developing a protection plan of the 520-year-old tree was critical to the success of the chancery project. We hope that this tree will continue to grow as the relationship between Canada and Korea continues to flourish."
