Three South Korean climbers who went missing last week were found dead on Monday on the Himalayan K2, the world's second-highest mountain, an alpine club leader said yesterday.
The three had gone missing while descending the mountain after reaching the 8,611-meter (28,251-foot) K2 peak on Friday. They were discovered at the 8,200-meter point. The whereabouts of the other team members was not known.
"We've managed to contact Kim Jae-su, the head of the alpine team, and heard that the three missing climbers are all dead," Cho Hyeong-gyu, head of the alpine club based on South Gyeongsang Province, said by telephone.
