When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking Twenty-five miles to school every morning...Uphill... barefoot...BOTH ways Yadda, yadda, yadda
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.
Ethnik Fashion Show
More than 49 different ethnic groups can be found living in Laos. Most of these groups continue to dress in traditional costumes passed down by their ancestors.
To showcase these colorful creations, Kopnoi, Made in Laos, is presenting a series of live Ethnic Fashion Shows in Luang Prabang, an enchanting historical city nestled between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. It is the former royal capital of Laos and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This Friday will be a sad day for Saigon’s nightlife scene when Cantina Central, the city’s only Mexican bar/restaurant, closes its doors after a successful two-year stint. I have particularly fond memories of the place having DJ’d there at several Saigon Soul Brothers nights with my fellow funkateer Mr Pete Murray (aka the Saigon Pieman). The food was always affordable and authentic, and the owner, the charismatic Othello Khanh, always on hand with generously poured margharitas.

Tini Tinou 2008 Towers to Triumph
Opening with a spectacular parade and show in Phnom Penh, the organisers and performers did not fail to impress in the fifth annual circus festival held in Battambang, 3-6 April.
Attracting on average 1,000 spectators a day, Manuel Trindade, chief organiser of the festival, was pleased to see that, as usual, the festival appealed to large numbers of Cambodians and foreigners. Saturday night was the most popular evening with an estimation that up to 1,500 people bulked an amazed audience.
International circus festival hits Battambang, Phnom Penh
No one can remember the word for "circus" in Khmer these days so, as is often customary in Cambodia, the French word ("le cirque") will do. However, in the late 12th century bas-reliefs of the Bayon at Angkor, acrobats perform contortions and feats of balance, and tamers coax wild animals to dance and do tricks. Cambodian circus performers say this ancient form of circus, from the time of Jayavarman VII and before, was uniquely Khmer, and is quite different to the Western idea of the circus Cambodians mainly see today.
Festival Brings Famous Films to Cambodians
With International Francophone Day coming up Mar 20, the French Cultural Center (CCF) is presenting the Fifth CineMekong Film Festival Mar 15-21 in Phnom Penh. The films will be shown free of charge to Cambodians.
CCF Director Alain Arnaudet said the festival is being presented to show the culture, customs and traditions of all the Mekong River countries.
"The CCF wants to show the French as well as Asian film worlds to the [former] French-speaking Asian regions," he said.
Jam Packed Pan-Asian Festival of the Disabled Hits Phnom Penh
A unique festival extravaganza is coming to town this Saturday: Spotlight - "the first ever inclusive arts festival to be held in Cambodia." This jam packed festival, featuring professional performers from seven Asian countries, is "inclusive" because both disabled and able-bodied artists are participating together. The main thing in common to the over 200 Spotlight artists appears to be quality, making disability irrelevant and breaking down the barriers between "disabled" and "able".
